Over the course of the year, primary schools share data and information about pupils with the academy. This helps to inform decision making when creating the new S1 classes. ASG schools work together to ensure that pupils starts their secondary school journey in a class where they can thrive.
The 5 feeder primary schools make up the majority of the S1 cohort; however, there are often in excess of 20 other primary schools represented in the new S1 intake. Inevitably, there will be the odd occasion where a pupil or parent is not immediately pleased with their assigned class. To try and avoid this, it is important that parents are proactive in communicating any issues relating to social dynamics with their child's primary school well in advance.
Classes are composed after careful consideration of many different variables. Here are a few of the key factors that are taken into account:
Current siblings and their House
Ensuring classes have representation from all ASG primaries
Ensuring classes are of mixed ability
Feedback from primary staff on social groupings
Pupils involved in the SFA shool
Pupils currently learning Gaelic and German
S1 classes will be shared with pupils and families by the end of May.
