Course Overview
The course develops candidates’ curiosity, interest and enthusiasm for chemistry in a range of contexts. The skills of scientific inquiry and investigation are developed throughout the course.
Candidates develop an appreciation of the impact of chemistry on their everyday lives by applying their knowledge and understanding of chemical concepts in practical situations.
Candidates gain an understanding of chemical bonding and intermolecular forces that allows them to predict the physical properties of materials. They apply a knowledge of functional groups and organic reaction types to solve problems in a range of diverse contexts.

The Course assessment is externally assessed and composed of the following 3 components:
Question paper 1: multiple choice (17%)
40 minutes
Question paper 2 (63%)
2 hours and 20 minutes
Assignment (20%)
2 hours write up in class time
Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements
Pupils will normally be expected to have attained:
National 5 Chemistry at A or B and;
National 5 Maths at A to C
