Why Building Thinking Classrooms?
Why Building Thinking Classrooms?
Teachers often find it difficult to implement lessons that go beyond rote memorization and repetitive calculations. In fact, institutional norms that permeate all classrooms can actually enable 'non-thinking' student behavior. Sparked by observing teachers struggle to facilitate rich mathematics, the Peter Liljedahl translated 15 years of research into 14 practices designed to move students from mimickers to thinkers.

reading Building Thinking Classrooms Grades K-12
completing six asynchronous online modules
trying out the practices throughout the school year
sharing stories with cohort members virtually, five times
making recommendations for future BTS initiatives.
