Design Dash's hometown and write a story about his typical day.
Dash
iPad with Blockly installed or a Chromebook and the Blockly website
Painter's tape or masking tape
Meter Stick
Index cards
Optional: bulletin board paper or butcher paper, building materials
Design a community or a city by drawing a plan or diagram. Then using masking tape, layout the design of your city’s roads on the floor. Make the roads wide enough for Dash to travel through.
Build or label elements of the community such as grocery stores, parks, fire stations, etc, and place those along the roads. Include a “home” for your Dash.
Test drive Dash through the city to make sure he fits on the roads and pathways.
Measure the distances and angles of the roads and pathways to program Dash to navigate through the city.
Write a story about what Dash does in a day. Include at least three stops or events. Program Dash to act out the story. Add appropriate narration, actions, and lights to further enhance the story.
Reflect on your program using one of the reflection options.
Extension: Recreate a place from history and have Dash be the tour guide explaining the importance of various locations.
