Our Arundel High Algebra I and geometry teams this past year read the book Grading for Equity by Joe Feldman. In his book, part of his method to create independent learners is to make sure students understand the WHY behind an assignment. If there is a reason that is explained, they are more likely to complete it. How about grading the assignments? What should you grade? Why do you grade certain assignments and not all?
