Job Description: Network Administrator/Computer Hardware Technician
The position requires an individual with technical skills to provide operational oversight of network, computer hardware, and OS and server software issues, as well as a broad perspective on technology planning.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of five years experience working with network design, installation and maintenance.
2. Experience with current Mac OS Client/Server, Windows Client/Server & Linux Client/Server operating systems or the ability to learn/manage/delegate as necessary.
3. Knowledge of and the ability to work with client/server security and antivirus software as necessary.
4. Experience with firewall operation & configuration.
5. Ability to set up and manage (or to learn) file servers, web servers, directory servers, DHCP/DNS servers, application servers, print servers, cloning servers and mail servers on the Mac platform, & looking ahead, possibly on the Linux platform; as well as assisting
with troubleshooting application specific windows servers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
General
1. Remain current on latest technologies, practices and software (above) and maintain Apple hardware/repair certifications.
2. Evaluate and recommend modifications to current and future network structures, as required to meet district needs.
3. Diagnose, maintain and repair (or manage delegation/outsourcing of) hardware and OS Client/Server software systems.
4. Provide technical/hardware support to students, faculty and staff.
5. Assume responsibility for professional growth by remaining current on latest technologies through reading, vendor training, workshops and course work.
6. Maintain & manage server systems (as noted above)
Network Maintenance
1. Management configuration and maintenance, either hands on or through delegation/outsourcing of:
a. Network infrastructure including firewall, routers, switches, wiring, fiber lines etc.
b. Configuration and maintenance of WAN/LAN workstations and wireless environment.
c. Configuration and maintenance of client/server environment as needed including, potentially: file servers, web servers, directory servers, DHCP/DNS servers, application servers, print servers, cloning servers and mail servers on the Mac platform, & looking ahead, possibly on the Linux platform; as well as assisting with troubleshooting application specific windows servers.
d. Management and testing of network security and backup procedures.
e. Monitoring of network activity for security, throughput, general network health and efficiency.
2. Inventory:
a. Maintain inventory of district purchased computer & network hardware. (Computers, Servers, primary network routers & switches smaller equipment, eg: projectors, cameras etc are inventoried in schools in library DB.)
b. Maintain a repair database/shared spreadsheet to track repair history of district computers.
c. Maintain a structure for hardware support/repair requests.
3. Staff Development/Policies:
a. Assist Technology Coordinator’s with the development of policies relating to district technology hardware, e.g: policies on updates, antivirus concerns, filtering etc.
b. Oversee maintenance of district policy manual (hosting and availability, method of update, etc.)
4. Budgeting & Purchasing:
a. Prepare, manage and act as signee on district technology budget lines (822395 & 822399 lines these are district software licensing, contracted services, staff development for district technology employees basically Powerschool, nonmlti hardware repair lines, network and other district wide supplies and equipment lines including lease lines.
b. Maintain uptodate Apple Self Service account to expedite inhouse repairs.
c. Manage purchasing of parts for said repairs
d. With technology team: manage retirement of old equipment & with Maintenance, expedite disposal.
e. Assist technology team with planning and acquisition of new equipment and the development of the general technology plan.
5. Hardware Maintenance:
a. Maintain and repair (or expedite repair) of computer & peripheral hardware as needed.
b. Install & configure computer hardware and manage cloning/imaging processes of computers
c. Manage district software licensing and installation.
d. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials
and facilities.
e. Expedite cleaning of equipment as necessary.
