The early part of this century saw The Park change from a suburban High School to an urban High School. The cities demographics changed as unemployment and lack of tax revenue created a financially poorer base of students. Rivertown Mall in Grandville opens in 1999 putting an end to 28th Streets retail dominance and forcing many businesses to to move or close. Even mighty Rogers Department Store and Studio 28 closed their doors signaling the economic change. In October, 2008 the General Motors Stamping Plant on 36th street closed it's doors sending the community into a deeper economic spiral.
But out of the economic turmoil Park Basketball survived. A new, tough, breed of Viking emerged challenging the notion that when things are tough people quit. The Vikings continue to compete , and win championships. The greatest comeback clutch victories in school history happen in this decade.
