Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the CBMS winter sports program. We truly cannot do it without the support of the community. This is a wonderful opportunity to get out on the slopes and share your love for winter activities with students, helping to foster their love of winter recreation. To volunteer for the CBMS winter sports program, you must:
Become an HUUSD approved Level 3 volunteer.
Sign up to volunteer with the winter sports program.
Volunteering will consist of an approximately 2.5-hour session at the mountain chaperoning students on the slopes. There will be two sessions each Friday (a grades 5/6 group and a grades 7/8 group). You can volunteer for either age group, but they overlap, so you can't chaperone both during the same day.
For each day you volunteer, your ticket at Sugarbush will be valid for the rest of the day. This gives you the option to take a few runs after the session you are chaperoning. (No other tickets or vouchers will be offered.) You will need to get your ticket validated each day.
There may also be some behind-the-scenes volunteering opportunities related to scheduling, fundraising, etc. If you're interested in helping in this capacity, please reach out to the winter sports program coordinators.
To volunteer with students on the slopes, you must be approved by HUUSD as a Level 3 volunteer. This is a multi-step process that involves completing an application for HUUSD and then being fingerprinted by the police/sheriff's department.
This process can take as long as 8-10 weeks, so it is recommended to start the process as soon as possible.
To apply, follow the instructions on HUUSD's Apply to Volunteer page.
If you are unable to pay the fees (to HUUSD and/or for the fingerprinting), please contact us. The winter sports program can help.
Once you are approved to be an Level 3 volunteer, you can sign up to volunteer for the winter sports program. Contact us so we can send you a survey about your availability. We will only send you the survey once we verify that you are an approved Level 3 volunteer.

For the 5/6 group, you should either take an early lunch, and then another run, or make time for lunch before they get on the bus (no runs afterwards). Plan accordingly based on the time it takes to complete a run, return rental equipment, and the group's departure time.
LOCATION: Sugarbush Mountain Resort, Mt Ellen.
HELMETS: Helmets are required for volunteers who are skiing and snowboarding.
TRANSPORTATION: Volunteers will need to coordinate their own transportation to and from Sugarbush. Volunteers will not be chaperoning on the busses to and from CBMS.
