For the 2025/26 school year, all CBMS students have the opportunity to participate in a winter recreational activity: downhill skiing, snowboarding, or skating.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Commonly Asked Questions - 2026 CBMS Winter Program
All students will need to sign up for the CBMS winter sports program. This will give us information about what activity they plan to participate in, whether they need equipment, and what level of skier or rider they are. Forms were sent home from school with students.
All students must complete/return:
CBMS Registration form
Payment/donation (or indicate that you need a scholarship)
Signed Sugarbush waiver
Rental form (if needed)
Signed Sugarbush rental waiver (if needed)
Sugarbush emergency contact info (this is in case the ski patrol needs to contact you for treatment)
Note: Students will be placed in groups based on ski or ride ability. We will do our best to pair each student with a friend in their group, which will be organized based on grade and skill level. DO NOT OVERSTATE YOUR CHILD'S ABILITY. If you don't know, don't guess. If we determine that your child is placed in the wrong group during the first week, we will move them into a group appropriate to their skill level.
BEHAVIOR CONTRACT: Please read and sign the Student Behavior Contract with your child. You will be notified if you child is not adhering to the contract. All behavioral issues will be dealt with through CBMS.
GEARING UP: Students will be dressing for their activity at school prior to leaving. It is their responsibility to know how to dress for the day's weather and the conditions. Their gear bags will be left at CBMS, so they should bring everything they will need with them on the bus.
LUNCH: All students will be bringing a lunch (from school or home) and there will be a place for them to keep it and eat during their session. It is recommended to send your student with a small snack they can keep in their pocket.
LIFT TICKETS: Each student is responsible for bringing their pass every week.
KNOW THE CODE: It is each student's responsibility to know the code for safely skiing and riding. Review Mountain Safety code with your student prior to the first day of the program.
ATTENDANCE: Contact the school ahead of time if your child is going to be late or needs to be dismissed early for instructions on how to proceed.
PARKS: No skiing or riding will be permitted in the terrain park. This is for student safety.
Students will be using district busses to go to and from their activity. Chaperones will be on the bus and appropriate behavior will be expected.
Students may not stay at the mountain unless a parent/guardian has filled out the form ahead of time. A designated adult must sign your student out before leaving with them. All other students will take the bus back to CBMS. School and boot bags will be left at CBMS.
If you would like your student to stay at the mountain after their session concludes, fill out the form posted to the weekly update. Principals Jen Durren and Duane Pierson will be the point person(s) for families to sign out at the mountain. They will station themselves in the Mt Ellen lodge (exact location TBD).
It is your student's responsibility to know what their equipment looks like and keep track of it. They will be responsible for making sure it makes it onto the departing vehicle at the end of their session.
DROP-OFF: All equipment needs to be dropped off at CBMS near the gym between 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Drop of will be in the parking lot near the gym. Your student's equipment should be placed in the location for their group (5/6 or 7/8). Follow the signs to the gym using the service road (similar to the PM pick up flow).
PICK-UP: Equipment must be picked up by 5:30pm.
TRANSPORTATION: Equipment will be transported each week to and from Sugarbush Mountain Resort by volunteers. SKIS MUST BE STRAPPED WITH POLES (this keeps them together). No ski or snowboard bags please. Volunteers are not responsible for lost or stolen equipment.
LABELS: All equipment must be labeled with your student's name. This includes each boot, ski, board, and/or pole! It is recommended to use duct tape as it is durable in this environment. Equipment for grades 5/6 will be marked with YELLOW tape; grades 7/8 will use GREEN tape. The tape also helps us identify the equipment quickly so it gets moved to the right locations.
LOST & FOUND: Equipment left at the drop off will be put in lost and found at CBMS.
We are asking for a donation of $105 per student to participate in the CBMS sinter sports program. Payment and forms should be completed and returned to CBMS. Payment can be dropped off at the main office or mailed to:

Waterbury, VT 05676
If you are unable to donate, we offer scholarships through the Eli Brookens Memorial Fund. This program is available to all students regardless of ability to pay.
The program will be cancelled if school is cancelled, if Sugarbush Mountain Resort closes, or if we deem conditions too hazardous for skiing and riding that day. Notification will go out via PowerSchool. Please make appropriate changes to your students after school transportation needs if necessary via the electronic forms at CBMS.
If for some reason we have student equipment and then there is a cancellation, we will be at the school at dismissal and the next morning for parents/guardians to retrieve the equipment.
