During our Math Block, children engage in both small group and large group lessons. Additional opportunities to practice new concepts or extend students' learning is offered as part of our Activity Boxes and/or Center Choices. Included in their daily lesson is participation in a math fluency, a structured concept lesson, and a hands-on math activity and/or game. Math vocabulary is introduced and reinforced throughout our lessons. Our hands-on work with manipulatives helps to increase all of our students' understanding as well as develop a love for learning. Transferring their understanding of math concepts to paper can be challenging so teacher modeling and assistance is provided as needed. The home environment provides many counting and math problem solving opportunities so enjoy engaging your child in math thinking!
