**The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (1985) has become a Canadian classic and offers a powerful criticism of North American society.  However, the novel's  unsettling content and themes may be troubling, especially to younger readers.  While online ratings suggest readers be 16-17+, we recommend that any Book Club member talk to parents before choosing to read this book.

Note:  An 11th book, Every Hidden Thing by Kenneth Oppel, has been added to our list to respect the decision of any student wishing to read 10 books but choosing not to read the Atwood title.
