WLIS Events & Testing Items Description

Students are encouraged to always do their best and to strive for individual improvement from one grade level to the next.  While the top scorers are recognized, the main emphasis of the unit is to determine one’s general fitness level and to “track” each individual’s improvement as they progress from 4th grade through 6th grade.

Mile run:  Students strive to improve their mile times during a 2 week unit that encourages their personal best.  The top 20 times of each gender/grade level are invited to the 6 race Cross Country Championships (4th Grade Girls, 4th Grade Boys, 5th Grade Girls, 5th Grade Boys, 6th Grade Girls & 6th Grade Boys).

400 M:

4x200 M Relay

Shot Put:  (5th/6th) Shots weigh 8 pounds for girls and 4K for boys (National age group rules).  4th Grade uses 6 lbs.  1 week of practice followed by two measured efforts determines the best distance recorded.

Turbo Jav (distance):  1 week of practice followed by two measured efforts determines the best distance recorded.

Standing Long Jump:  Multiple practice jumps and 1 measured effort determines the best distance recorded.

Jump Rope:  Each student speed jumps for one minute.  The total number of jumps are counted and recorded on one attempt.

All of the above activities are in-school competitions and will completed and awarded in P.E. class.
