Wifi Access for Windows 7

Wifi is available to all students of West Island School. Upon entry to WIS, students are provided with a username and password that can be used to log in to the wifi network. Once connected, the student can use resources like network printing, wisdom, google apps etc.

How to Connect to the Wifi using Windows 7

There are two ways to connect to the student wifi network when using a computer running on Windows 7. The first method is straightforward; download a zip file, extract, install and connect. The second method will involve more steps to configure your laptop to join the wifi.

Method 1:

1. Download this zip file.

2. Extract the 2 files inside zip file to your computer.

3. Run the .bat file (double-click)

4. Connect to the wis-student wifi network using your wisdom username and default password (date of birth YYMMDD).

Method 2:

1. In the Control Panel, go to the Network and Sharing Center and click Manage Wireless Networks.

2. Click Add and click Manually create a network profile.

3. Manually add the wireless settings for the wis-student wifi network as follows:

  • Network name: wis-student
  • Security: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Security: blank
  • Start this connection automatically: ticked

Click Next

4. On the next page, click Change connection settings

5. Open the Security tab,

  • Tick the Remember my credentials for this connection check box
  • Click the Settings button

6. In the Protected EAP Properties menu

  • Untick Validate server certificate
  • Untick Enable Fast Reconnect
  • Click Configure button and untick Automatically use my Windows logon name and password check box
  • Click OK

7. In the wis-student Wireless Network Properties menu

  • Click the Advanced settings button

8. In the Advanced settings menu

  • Tick Specify authentication mode:
  • Select User authentication from the dropdown menu
  • Click the save credentials button and key in your wisdom username and default password (date of birth in YYMMDD format)
  • Click OK

Changing your wifi and printing password

After connecting to the wifi, you can change your wifi password as follows:

1. Open a browser and go to: changepw.wis.edu.hk

2. On the username box, key in: student\wisdom username

3. Key in your current password

4. Key in a new password

5. Confirm the new password and click submit

6. Disconnect from the wifi, navigate to the wifi network list. Right-click on "wis-student" and click Forget

7. Key in your wisdom username and new password

Note: Changing the wifi password will also change your print release code. You can use "Sign in with Google" on the PaperCut Web Interface to manage your account online.
