What does SAT stand for?
SAT is an acronym that once stood for Scholastic Aptitude Test. However, there has been much controversy over whether the test measures aptitude or achievement. As a result, SAT is a stand-alone acronym that no longer stands for anything.

The SAT is a college admission test that is recognized by colleges and universities all over the world.
What does the SAT measure?
It measures your skills in 3 subject areas - reading, writing, and math.
When should I take the SAT?
You can begin taking the SAT in your junior year of high school and no later than the fall of your senior year in order to be considered for admission to most colleges and universities for the next academic year.
How do I register for the SAT?
You can register for the SAT at http://sat.collegeboard.org/home. There are deadlines for registration so be sure to plan in advance when you want to take the SAT. It costs more money to register after the deadline and you may be placed on a waiting list.

Sign up for the SAT Question of the Day! All you need is an email address. The College Board will email you a question each day. This is a great way to learn how questions are presented on the test.

ACT is an acronym for American College Test.
What is the ACT?
The ACT is a college admissions exam that is accepted by colleges and universities all over the United States.
What does the ACT measure?
It measures how well a high school student is prepared for college-level work. It uses four different subject area tests in English, Mathematics, Science, and Reading. The ACT Plus has an additional Writing test.
When should I take the ACT?
At least two months prior to the application deadlines of colleges you want to apply to and scholarships you want to apply for. Taking the test your junior year gives you time to take the test a second time if you need to.
How do I register for the ACT?
You can register for the ACT online at http://www.actstudent.org/regist/. You will need to create an ACT Web Account to register online and you will need a credit card. If you do not have a credit card, you may request a Register-by-Mail packet that you will have to complete and return to ACT.
