The Select Board and Fire District will need to enter into an intermunicipal agreement to transfer the responsibility. Below is the document that we have been working on with counsel. We will take on responsibility for all lights following the approval of the agreement. Then, we can acquire from National Grid and be able to run the demonstration projects for public comment before committing to a plan. Between the time that National Grid reassigns the accounts to us and June 30, we will bill the Fire District for the costs since they have the funds in their budget through June 30. At the beginning of the next fiscal year, operating costs will move into the Town Budget.

We are working on a separate, shorter agreement, to move the department of Forest Warden from the Town to the Fire District where it more logically fits operationally. Again, this would be effective July 1 in the next fiscal year.
