Hello Berkshire Boards of Health,

Last week Senator Comerford and Representatives Kane and Garlick filed legislation in the MA House and Senate that would establish minimum credentials for local public health, provide dedicated state funding to local boards of health and accelerate the findings of the Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health. All Berkshire legislators have already signed on to co-sponsor the bill, so please take a moment to thank them if you get a chance!

More information about the bill, called SAPHE 2.0 and the coalition can be found here: https://mapublichealth.org/saphe2-0/. You can also sign on to the coalition both as an individual and as an organization at this site - please consider taking a vote at your next BOH meeting to sign on as an organization and ask your town selectboard or City Council to consider signing on as well. Any town official can also sign on as an individual.

Finally, please see information below about a webinar tomorrow, sponsored by MEHA, that will go into more detail about the Special Commission, the Coalition for Local Health (CLPH), the original SAPHE bill that passed last April and the new SAPHE 2.0 bill.

Thanks,

Laura
