BUILDING

The Town has hired Travis Fachini from Cheshire the position of Local Inspector with a start date of Monday August 19. Mr. Fachini is a licensed construction supervisor with over a decade of experience in the building trades. We are happy to welcome him to the team.

Ryan Contenta has been busy with all of the major projects currently underway in town. Recently Certificates of Occupancy have been issued for Garfield House and the new Williams Inn on the Williams campus. The other College projects are continuing to progress. Topping off is expected within 2 weeks at the North Science Center. Also notable is a change of contractor at the Saint Anthony Hall Center for Development Economics project. The team from Engelberth Construction of Colchester, VT that constructed the Williams Inn will now be seeing this project through to completion.

Projects not related to Williams include the new Fairfield Inn which is nearing completion, repairs at Mount Greylock School, the move of a home at 107 South Street to Gale Road, and the River Houses at Cable Mills.

The department would also like to extend a thank you to Walker Haig, Mike Lahey, and Bruce LaPearl who have been filling in for plumbing inspector James Rando who is on an extended leave due to illness.

HEALTH

Jeff has been busy this summer performing septic inspections, keeping up on the kitchen quality at local restaurants, and checking on the water quality at Margaret Lindley Park. The Park has returned exceptionally good water quality so far this summer.

LAND USE

The Town and the City of North Adams have selected Solar Flair as the Solarize Plus vendor for our communities. Solar coach Susan Abrams has been hard at work assisting homeowners and the installer with coordinating installations.

Conservation Commission recently approved a wetlands boardwalk connecting Spring and South Streets as well as the Ecological Restoration of Christmas Brook. ZBA will not meet in August due to lack of quorum but will have an extensive agenda in September including an appeal of an order by the Department for a homeowner on Simonds Road to cease the raising of pigs, a sporting goods shop on North Hoosac Road, and modifications to the live / work space on White Oaks Road.

Planning Board meets Aug. 13 to continue discussing items for 2020. These include regulations on common and lengthy driveways, lighting, and outdoor cannabis cultivation.
