Stop sign - Latham and Spring Street (Westbound)

In the design for the intersection improvements at the end of Latham and Spring Street, the engineering recommendation showed a stop sign for westbound traffic at the intersection of Spring and Latham Streets (nothing that the driveway to the Inn has a stop sign for eastbound vehicles.)

Given the increasing possibility of more vehicles basically "going straight" from Latham Street into the Williams Inn parking lot than those that might have found their way into the old Denison Park Drive, it seems reasonable to try to avoid some conflict with vehicles proceeding south on Spring Street and continuing onto Latham Street. Tim and I recommended waiting until we actually saw the situation on the ground before adding an official sign. We actually have only a limited number of authorized stop signs. Upon reviewing the built condition with him as well as Chief Johnson and based on some feedback we have received from other field observations, we are recommending approval of a stop sign at this location. At this time, we are not recommending a stop sign on the Spring Street side for southbound traffic. In all cases, if a future adjustment is warranted based on actual use after new traffic behaviors are learned and settled, this can be revisited.

The attachment shows the plan for the intersection and the movement of concern.

Stop signs are authorized by the Board as an amendment to Schedule 130-53 in the Town Code as Latham Street westbound at Spring Street.
