Williamstown COA and Northern Berkshire Community Coalition are working together to offer a four week introductory Nordic Walking program to begin on June 19th, from 9-11 with a demonstration and pole introduction. The subsequent 3 sessions (Wednesdays June 26th, July 10th and 17th) will be guided walks including strolls in Hopkins Forest and along the river from Linear Park. The COA has purchased 20 sets of Mountain Smith poles, available for loan to class participants or for recreational purposes as well.
Nordic walking engages-your total body while walking and when you include the walking poles you engage your upper body in a manner that is different than just walking. Nordic walking activates 90% of body muscles, burns many more calories than plain old walking, reduces load and strain on your lower back, tones muscles, improves lateral spinal mobility, improves balance and strengthens core muscles.
The class is limited to 20 participants and interested individuals should contact the COA at 458.8250 or Bret Beattie, our instructor, at the Coalition, 663.7588.
