Tai Chi in the Park begins on Friday August 3rd. Classes will be held, weather permitting of course, on the green in Field Park from 8:30 to 9:30 With the exception of August 24th (Tai Chi Instructor Youlin Shi will be away) class will meet through September 14th. By the way, the COA also hosts Tai Chi at the Harper Center, an intro class on Monday afternoon at 1:00 and a class for more advanced students at 9:00 on Thursday morning.

If you're coming out to the Park, wear comfortable clothing, bring a bottle of water too. You can park at the Milne Library as long you are out by 10:00 when the Library opens. If this outside experiment is successful, we'll continue in the Spring.

TrIPPS of Massachusetts is a new agency whose goal is to help people transitioning from being a driver to passenger. Their idea is that by providing transportation you can reduce isolation in the senior population. Last October the WCOA was offered an opportunity to apply for funding to do something creative which would enhance transportation for local elders. The COA applied for funding to add time to their existing transportation program and were approved for $5000 to create a transportation pilot. Unfortunately, fund delivery hit some snags, was released late in June and too late for the COA to properly arrange a schedule utilizing internal resources. Retreating to the drawing board we contracted with Northern Berkshire Transport, already staffed and having vehicles to provide Town based travel services after the COA van has ceased operations for the evening. Town elders can now access a ride on Thursday and Friday evenings after 4:00, Saturday between 10:00 and 3:00 and Sunday morning between 9:00 and Noon by contacting the Transport people at 458.9831. If the pilot is successful COA will advocate to integrate the time into the van operation. If it isn't successful then we'll know that the need is not existent. Time will tell.
