Since the last report on 10/06/16:

Training: Sgt. David Lemieux attended a one day refresher course on Massachusetts Firearms laws. Sgt. Lemieux serves as the department’s firearms instructor, as well as the administrator for all Firearms Identification Cards (FID) and License to Carry (LTC) permits.

K9 Officer Mike Ziemba attended a three-day course of instruction on Managing Critical Incidents for Higher Education Institutions: A Multi-Disciplinary Community Approach. This course trains campus administrators and managers, public safety and law enforcement personnel, and other campus and community response partners to effectively manage critical incidents by applying and implementing an all-hazards, multi-disciplinary, command, and management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System’s (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) and Multi-Agency Coordination Systems (MACS). The course places specific emphasis on the unique aspects of responding to critical incidents on higher education institution campuses and concludes with a role play exercise customized to the community in which the course is delivered.

Community: K9 Officer Ziemba serves as the department’s School Safety officer, working closely with the schools, neighboring police agencies and the State Police. Since the start of school in September, he has assisted with lockdown drills at MGRHS & WES, as well as Greylock Elementary and Drury High School in North Adams, and Hancock Elementary school.

Motor Vehicle Crashes: There were eight (8) MV crashes reported:

Parked/Parking Lot (4): MGRHS; Driscoll Hall; WES; Spring St

Roadway (3): Walden St (MV struck a pole while turning around); Main St (MV slowing in traffic was struck from behind); Main St (Pedestrian bumped while crossing in a crosswalk)

Intersection (1): Cole Ave @ Main St (MV stopped for red light struck from behind.)
