Reaction GIF / QR Code Reward Stickers
I've made the dorkiest reward stickers of all time. Intended to replace a bland smiley face sticker or hand-written "Good Job!" at the top of student work, these stickers encourage high achievement by rewarding the student with an interactive, fun, and fairly cheesy experience. Scanning the QR code in the sticker to the right takes you here.
How it works:
Students can scan the QR codes printed on the stickers with their smart phones, using any QR code reading app. Each QR code contains a URL that automatically directs the student to an animated gif image depicting someone/something celebrating. See some of the sample reaction gifs below:
What you need:
The .pdf file attached at the bottom of this page, which contains 2 copies of 30 different codes (for 60 stickers per sheet.)
Full-sheet mailing label paper suitable for your printer (apparently they make different kinds for inkjet and laser printers.) I use Avery 5265 sheets in my laser printer--you can get them in packs of 25 for around $10 at Amazon.
Scissors. Gotta cut 'em out by hand, sorry.
Students who have their own smartphones, with QR code reading apps installed. I use Zapper on my iPhone, I've heard that Bar Code Scanner is good for the Android platform. Both are free and there are many more free alternatives.
How I did it:
I spent a fair amount of time being an internet geek, collecting funny "celebration" reaction gifs. I hosted many of them with the outstanding image hosting site imgur.com, and some of the larger ones with the somewhat less outstanding image hosting site imageshack.us. Next, I took the URLs generated by the image hosting sites and embedded them into QR codes using goqr.me. Finally, I pasted those QR codes into Microsoft Word and printed 'em out on mailing label paper. Here is me when I finished:
