TERC Investigations is the math curriculum for the Westwood Elementary Schools. In 2S, your student will be learning this curriculum through their own, as well as teacher guided, curiosities and explorations. Students will start off each day with a starter problem that will inspire "noticings" or curiosities they have about the topic presented: Does that always work? Is that always true? Why or why not? They will then work to explore their curiosities in whole group discussions, partner and individual explorations, all at their own differentiated level in order to create generalizations (rules) about numbers, shapes, measurement, etc.
Through this inquiry based approach, students will study:
Unit 1: Addition/Subtraction/Number System 1
→ Coins, Number Strings, and Story Problems
Unit 2: Geometry and Fractions
→ Attributes of Shapes and Parts of a Whole
Unit 3: Addition/Subtraction/Number System 2
→ How Many Stickers? How Many Cents?
Unit 4: Modeling with Data
→ Pockets, Teeth, and Guess My Rule
Unit 5: Addition/Subtraction/Number System 3
→ How Many Tens? How Many Hundreds?
Unit 6: Linear Measurement
→ How Far Can You Jump?
Unit 7: Foundations of Multiplication
→ Partners, Teams, and Other Groups
Unit 8: Addition/Subtraction/Number System 4
→ Enough for the Class? Enough for the Grade?
