2nd Graders will continue their work with Fundations moving from Fundations Level 1 (Gr1) to Fundations Level 2 (Gr2). They will also be learning new 2nd grade trick words, while continuing to work to master any 1st grade trick words they may have forgotten over the summer or may have just not yet been ready for mastery at the end of first grade. 2nd Graders will also be learning and applying content and skill-based vocabulary words, as well as learning parts of speech.
Level 2 Fundations reviews and raises the expectation of correct application of digraphs, blends, bonus letters, glued sounds, suffixes, syllabication of multisyllable words, silent e, and then also covers/embeds parts of speech work with the following new spelling patterns/concepts:
New Glued Sounds:
- old, olt, ost, ild, ind
New Suffixes:
- er, est
Open Syllables:
- long vowel
R-controlled:
- ar, or, ore // er, ir, ur
Vowel Teams:
- ee, ea, ie, ey, oi, oy, oa, ow, oe, oo, ou, ue, ew, au, aw
Consonant-le Syllables:
- zle, tle, fle, ble, dle, kle, ple
