Rather than using the attachments manager at the bottom of a sites page, it is handy to have a link to the file directly within the text. For example, a syllabus, directions, etc.
View this site for an example- (from my Google Sites playground- The Guilt Free Chocolate Cake) https://sites.google.com/a/aea267.k12.ia.us/schma3-duplicated/
The steps involve:
1. Uploading your file to the attachments on the site
2. Locating the URL to the file
3. Linking the URL to your selected text.
Directions for Linking to a file in the attachment manager
1. Click on More then Manage Site
2. Click on Attachments
3. Select Upload
4. Browse for the file that you want to link to and select Open or select (this screen will vary depending on your operating system).
5. After uploading the file, it will show up in your attachment list
6. Click on View
7. When you click on view, it will open your file in a new window or tab. This file has its own unique URL. Select this URL and copy it so that you can paste it when making the link to the file.
8. Close this tab or window and navigate back to your attachments page and then back to your site.
9. Select the page where you want your file to appear. Click the "Edit page" button. Type in the appropriate text (or select the appropriate text) and highlight it.
10. Click on the link icon (looks like a chain)
11. In the new window select Web Address and paste the copied URL into text box and click OK. When done editing the page click save.
