Western Heights School Focus - 2017 Onwards
Goal 1 To develop self-motivated, self-managing, independent leaders of our own learning.
1.1 For children to lead their learning supported by best teaching practice.
1.2 To provide an authentic future-focused approach to learning.
1.3 To improve student and teacher effectiveness through a focus on DMIC Maths, Science Inquiry, Walker Learning Approach, Growth Mindset, and effective use of technology to assist teaching and learning.
1.4 To address achievement deficiencies according to need - ethnic, gender, age - as appropriate.
Goal 2 To provide a balanced, differentiated learning and teaching programme focussed on achievement.
2.1 To raise student literacy and numeracy achievement.
2.2 To improve teacher effectiveness through feedback and feed-forward enriched by evidence.
2.3 To improve teacher effectiveness through a focus on Cultural Responsiveness.
Goal 3 To build an informed community focused on student achievement and engagement.
3.1 To effectively communicate both the vision and student achievement.
3.2 Support, consult, track and report on the achievement of Maori, Pasifika and Chinese and Indian students.
3.3 Hui with each of our key stakeholder communities - Maori, Pasifika, Chinese, Indian. Sharing achievement data, and plans to address deficiencies, as well as build on successes. Consult regarding their community goals, and aspirations, Provide opportunities for communication of our school practices, values and practices, with opportunities for clarification, questioning, suggestions and ideas. Facilitated by first-language translators.
3.4 To improve and extend our involvement with grandparents - encouraging attendance to hui, open-classrooms, Grandparent Days, Reading Support.
3.5 To investigate ways we can provide ESL support on-site for our grandparents.
Goal 4 To improve our financial management, facilities, resources, and operations.
4.1 To continue our focus on operational efficiency.
4.2 To implement property and environmental improvements as allowed within the scope of our 5YA and operations budget.
4.3 To provide a safe environment for all.
4.4 To involve our environment in our learning, and learning in our environment.
