Below you will find the rules and procedures of Mrs. Turner's classroom, a list of materials needed, what to do if you are absent, how to keep track of weekly assignments, lab expectations and study island extra credit.
To be PREPARED FOR CLASS – students should have these 7 items everyday…
· 3-ring binder (I prefer a separate 1” binder just for science) – By the end of this school year you will
have 2 semesters worth of notes and assignments in that one binder – we do not throw away science
papers or assignments.
· Loose leaf paper (If you use spiral notebook paper, rough edges must be gone)
· 1 pencil (#2 lead), 1 pen (blue or black), and 1 red pen for correction
· Colored pencils (3-4 colors, at least) to enhance notes and drawings.
· Headphones (needed to fully access all the available curriculum in our Discovery Education Techbook)
A school provided Chromebook will be assigned to each student during homeroom and will allow the student to get online to access their school Email, Zoom, Google Classroom and to interface with Google Docs, Forms, Slides, Hangouts, and Drive during school hours.
We use Discovery Education Curriculum that has a Digital Textbook (known as a Techbook), which will be the source of much of our class reading and some assignments.
MRS TURNER’S LIFE SCIENCE WEBSITE

I also have a website that allows parents access to weekly classroom information, rules and procedures, and examples of semester projects. The website and other digital resources are updated and changed as needed.
WEEKLY AGENDA
I prepare a weekly agenda that includes class activities, projects, reading and homework assignments, and/or quizzes and test dates. This Agenda is posted in my room every Monday on the right hand side of the white board and is subject to change as the week progresses. At the beginning of each week students are expected to record this agenda into their planners and then update any changes that may happen each day. You will find a link on my website to a Google Slide presentation that will allow you to find each Weekly Agenda by date.

When you receive an EXCUSED ABSENCE, students need to turn in any work that was due or assigned as SOON as possible to not fall behind in my class. Content builds on each other in Science and missing one concept make’s it difficult to continue on in the curriculum. If students are absent 1 day I expect work to be gathered and finished within 2-3 days from absences. I have classroom procedures that include planners and plan-of-the-day slips that help students find their missing work. Students are responsible for knowing and doing the assigned makeup work – so please ASK QUESTIONS. These missing assignments from absences will need to be done outside of class, since we don’t stop instruction to wait for those that are absent to catch up. Therefore, I try to post as many assignments as possible in my Google Classroom so student that are working on these missing assignments can have access to them outside of class. However, there are still many other activities and Labs that can only be done in the science classroom and therefore must be done outside of class in a timely manner. The best time to makeup these type of assignments in during lunchtime, but can also be done before or after school with special arrangements. Contact must be made with me within the number of days mentioned above to make arrangements for any makeups that must be done at school. Tests and Quizzes are generally made up during flex time if a student does not have other academic obligations during that time. Any digital assignments will be graded based on the date stamp given when the finished assignment is turned in.
TURNING IN WORK and LATE WORK
Most, if not all, assignments and papers are turned in AT SCHOOL by putting the papers into the IN drawer by my front door. Students should NEVER leave assignments on any of my desks. All work is expected to be turned in on time for full points; for every day an assignment is late, points will be lost until none can be earned (this generally will take about 4 weeks).
LAB CONTRACT
Before the first laboratory activity students will bring home a lab contract to be signed by a parent or guardian. This contract must be signed and returned to Mrs. Turner before the student will be allowed to participate in class activities using science equipment. If the contract is not signed, students will not be able to participate or earn points for lab activities.
If parents are interested in receiving weekly emails about the class please send your written email address to school with your student and I will add you to my mailing list - or you can make these types of requests by emailing me at: turners@weiserschools.org
