Bloom's Taxonomy

how will this help me?

How many times have you thought you understood something, but then still got the question wrong on a test? There is a good chance the real issue wasn't that you did not understand, but rather was the depth of your understanding. There are many ways test questions can be asked on the same topic. The way the question is asked is what determines its difficulty, not the topic. Your performance on those questions will depend on the depth of your understanding, not a simple "I get it" or "I don't get it." This is where Bloom's Taxonomy comes in. It provides a structure to help us determine and improve our own levels of understanding and mastery.

Bloom's Taxonomy provides a structure and way of classifying of understanding and mastery into six different levels.

The document linked below gives a more detailed explanation of the taxonomy with examples of how this course connects to it.

So when you are studying, do not ask "Do I understand topic xyz?" Instead, you need to ask "Do I understand topic xyz at level 1? Level 2? Level 3?" and so on.
