Strings: 3rd-8th Grade

As a classically trained violinist, it’s my privilege to teach strings at Cathedral! After two years, our program has grown to 25 students. Students will learn the basics of posture, playing position, tone production, ensemble playing and note reading. My approach is based on the method of the famous pedagog Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, who also taught my teacher! Cathedral strings students are honored to be great-grandstudents of Dr. Suzuki himself!

Beginning Strings-all 3rd-8th graders can join beginning strings. Students will have class on Wednesday afternoon until 3:40, and also have one "pull-out" lesson per week during recess. Students will perform at the spring concert on May 19.

Continuing Strings-students will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays after school until 3:40. These students will perform in the Christmas Program on January 8th and a spring concert on May 19th. They will also have opportunities to play for school masses.

All strings students must rent a violin and purchase a shoulder rest! I recommend Triangle Strings and Azure Violins for rentals. If the cost of renting an instrument is prohibitive, PLEASE contact me, I may be able to source an instrument. There is a $400 fee to cover personnel and materials, drafted through FACTS, prorated over the year. To sign up, please email Mr. Lutter!
