Syllabus

Welcome to German 3/4 2018/2019. This class, an advanced class, will put its focus on speaking, reading and writing. Above you find a pdf file that includes the book "Der Fall Schlachter" We will read this book together in class - reading: we will work on pronunciation, on pausing, on understanding of text. With the book we will learn new vocabulary, we will discuss and look at the scenery, we will act out scenes from the book etc.

Students: Sprecht Deutsch, Hoert Deutsch, Versteht Deutsch!

Besides the book, songs etc., we will work on some grammar (as always, verb tenses), we will work on our written expression (essays in class, corrections at home), and we will learn about Germany and the German people.

Expectation:

Responsibility (doing homework, listening, participating, being on time, knowing your grade, keeping organized folder...)

Curiosity - the key to learning in general

Flexibility - "Ich weiss, dass ich nichts weiss" (Cicero referring to Socrates) - gilt fuer Lehrer und Schueler!

GRADING:

  • Tests (essays, projects...): 40
  • Quizzes (grammar, vocab): 35
  • Homework: study, correcting essays: 10
  • Classwork: Everything else: 15

First assignment: Write an essay in English: How do the words responsibility, curiosity and flexibility fit into class. In an essay I want to learn something about you and your way of thinking! Agree with me, disagree with me - whatever: have an opinion. Form a thesis, an antithesis, give examples, write a conclusion
