COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
Studio/East PRE-IB Art:
This year long course is designed for students to set their own course of study in a media of their choice. Studio Art students may choose a 2D or 3D approach for a more in depth study and application of the elements and principles of art. Emphasis will be on developing original ideas using theme topics and artist research. Students will document ideas, process, problems, and solution in a visual journal and are required to curate an exhibit or their completed artworks at CAFÉ with a written artist statement.
Students need to complete 3 or more art classes before taking Studio Art. Students who plan ontaking IB Art should consider taking Studio Art as a Pre-IB prep course their Junior year.
IB Art:
This is an advanced and rigorous course for highly motivated students who plan on studying the visual arts after high school. Students should have above average technical skill, the ability to work independently, and a true passion for art.
Requirements that must be met to receive credit:
Comparative Study: written examination & comparison of 2-3 artists
Curate an exhibit & write a curatorial rationale.
Develop & complete a Visual Journal & Process Portfolio
Complete original artworks 4-7 (SL) or 8-11 (HL)
This course will help prepare students for possible advanced university standing or may help earn university credit.

IB Art "How-to Visual Journal Guide & Rubric
Studio & IB Art students are required to create an exhibit of their entire collection of work at CAFE along with their Visual Journal and an artist's statement/curatorial rationale. In addition, IB Art students will display work within the community; preferably in a gallery or museum space. These are images from recent ex-IB-itions at the Woodson Art Museum at 700 N. 12th Street in Wausau. Each student selected 3-4 works with the museums curatorial staff, composed a statement that was hung alongside their works, and was invited to an opening reception.
