ABOUT

CAREERS

Want a job?

Take Art. 2.8 million Americans work in the Visual Arts industry. Nearly every product we buy has been developed by a designer or artist.  The creative sector will be worth $6.1 trillion internationally in less than 15 years.

Are you an East graduate working in an art related career?

Over the years we've worked on assembling a list of East graduates who are currently working in art related careers. Each student's information card is posted on a map of Wisconsin or the nation.

Example information card:

Buck KnittClass of: 2009College Attended: UW-MilwaukeeDegree Earned: Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science - Architecture & Urban PlanningCareer: Designer @ Rinka Chung Architecture - Milwaukee, WI

These maps are on permanent display outside the Art Department classrooms for all students, parents, teachers, and other visitors to see. Not only are we curious to find out how our former students are doing in their lives, we are also working to make visible the career opportunities that the visual arts offer our current students.

C.A.F.É.  Cultural Arts Festival at East

Each May the Wausau community has the opportunity to participate in the Cultural Arts Festival at East (C.A.F.É.).  Wausau East High School opens its doors to celebrate art, music, food, and much more!  East Art students fill the hallways with their innovative and imaginative creations completed during the school year.  This cumulative exhibit includes: paintings, ceramics, and sculpture, along with numerous drawings and designs.  Every student taking an art course has something on display!  Many students sit with their display to greet guests and share their works. For the past several years the Art Department has also sold donated works to raise money for various charities.

C.A.F.É. also has wonderful musical performances - both choral and instrumental, as well as ethic foods served up with a smile by the Global Languages Dept, F.A.C.E. Dept, and Youth Culture Club.  In addition, the Technology Ed. Dept hosts an open house with a car show and the Greenhouse has a plant sale.

The art tour and musical performances are open to the public free of charge.  Food is sold at a minimal cost as a fund-raising activity for student scholarships and programming.
