Dance virtually this summer with talented Artistic Directors and Choreographers - Vasyl Kanevets, Anna Kanevets and Vincent Rees. Immerse yourself in the unique regions of Ukrainian dance this summer.
Individual workshops are designed for ages 7-9 years, 10-12 years, and 13 years and up.
If you love Ukrainian dance and want to increase or maintain your skills this summer, this regional focused, intensive dance opportunity is for you!
Each Two-Week Workshop runs on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Vykrutas Unveils Joint Collaboration Show that Spotlights the Next Generation of Ukrainian Ensemble Dancers from Across Canada - BRAVO! For the Love of Ukrainian Dance

People in Calgary’s Ukrainian dance scene have come to expect big things from the newest Ukrainian dance start-up in Calgary, Vykrutas!!! While Vykrutas may be a new name in Alberta’s Ukrainian dance scene, its Artistic Director, dancers and even board members have a long history in entertaining audiences with awe-inspiring choreography, dancing and events in Canada and internationally. Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance Society was created to enable the continued transfer and preservation of the history, artistry, passion and skill of Ukrainian dancing, from the visionary, passionate and very talented Artistic Director, Vasyl Kanevets. Vykrutas aims to showcase quality Ukrainian dance, with its dancers flourishing in their art and being involved in the Calgary Ukrainian dance community, as well as across Canada, North America and around the world.
In the past 3 years, Vykrutas has emerged and been recognized for its exceptional choreography and earned a reputation of being an elite group of young performers with strong technical and dance fundamentals, passion, momentum and drive. Mr. Kanevets encourages the dance experience at Vykrutas to include collaboration with other schools and learning from other instructors and he is well aware that the future of Ukrainian dance lies in the hands and feet of young dancers being deeply connected to their culture and their love for Ukrainian dance. Managing a young ensemble, Mr. Kanevets knows he is entrusted with developing stronger, more collaborative dancers that think beyond their school boundary, beyond their province, and beyond their country when they think of Ukrainian dance. Mr. Kanevets encourages his dancers to see their role as Ukrainian dancers as being bigger than themselves - to ensure Ukrainian dance is not lost or forgotten. BRAVO! is one such collaborative event, the vision of Vykrutas and Artistic Director, Vasyl Kanevets, to deliver an inspiring experience and show for audiences and dancers from a variety of groups.
The BRAVO! show will put the spotlight squarely on the next generation of Ukrainian ensemble dancers across Canada in a partner show with Vykrutas that allows emerging ensemble dancers the opportunity to showcase their love, passion and dedication to preserving the culture of Ukrainian Dance. 2020 will be the inaugural year for BRAVO! as it puts down roots in Calgary, within the Ukrainian dance community and the Calgary arts community. In the future, it is expected that reciprocal shows will take place in other parts of the country, hosted by partnering junior ensembles.
The inaugural unveiling of BRAVO! – Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance Society’s Annual Collaboration of Next Generation Ukrainian Dancers Across Canada, is uniquely set to take the stage right in the heart of downtown Calgary, in the new state-of-the-art DJD Dance Centre Theatre. The choice of venue is intended to send the message that Ukrainian Dance in Calgary is worthy of a downtown space, taking a front seat right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of our beautiful city. BRAVO! will be the only event of its kind in Canada, bringing together Junior Ukrainian dance ensembles across Canada in a vibrant, cultural event. This, the first year, will be extra special as the show will bring together for the first time on one stage the talents of two brothers and renowned Artistic Directors - Vasyl Kanevets, Artistic Director of Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance Society, and Mykola Kanevets, Artistic Director of Cheremosh Dance Company and Cheremshyna, from Edmonton. BRAVO! will be launched this year as an Alberta show, with Vykrutas Ensemble from Calgary sharing the stage with Cheremshyna Ukrainian Dance Ensemble from Edmonton. Guest performers will include Yalenka Ukrainian Dancers and Polanie Polish Song & Dance Association, both from Calgary.
Plans are this will be an annual event that allows the future of Ukrainian dance – talented Ukrainian dance ensembles and their dancers – the opportunity to share the spotlight as they share the stage, collaborate and perform for the love of Ukrainian dance.
