Vocational-Technical Programs

Many vocational-technical courses are offered to the high school graduate in the Jefferson County Area. Some of these courses are at state supported schools while others are offered in private schools. We advise you to consider ALL types of technical and business schools and determine for yourself those best suited for your needs.

LAWSON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE (now includes the former Bessemer State Technical College) AND JEFFERSON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE - These offer a variety of vocational and two-year terminal courses as well as programs for students planning to transfer to a 4-year college or university. All courses are certified by the State Department of Education. Courses vary in length from 12-24 months. Additional information is available online and in the Guidance Department.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS - Additional courses are offered in private schools in the county. These include such courses as office occupations, electronics, cosmetology, drafting and others. These are listed in your telephone directory and in the newspaper.
