I am so happy to have you in this class. I know that you will find greater peace and overall wellness as you learn about and implement your Yoga practice this semester.
Yoga is a systematic practice of physical exercise, breath control, relaxation, and positive thinking and meditation aimed at developing harmony in the body, mind, and environment. The practice entails low-impact physical activity, postures (called asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), relaxation, and meditation. Don't worry if you have no experience with yoga (or no understanding of the terms in that previous sentence!) You don't need any equipment, not even a mat if you don't have one (I rarely use one.)
Throughout the summer semester, you need to complete 30 hours of Yoga practice sessions and other physical activities. You are welcome to use the videos linked above for all or none of your Yoga sessions. If you have other Yoga videos or DVDs that you love, or if you take Yoga classes, you may use those instead. The videos are a great and varied resource for you to use if you would like, especially if you are brand new to Yoga! Your exercise will make up 50% of your grade, 2 short video recordings will make up 30%, and the other 20% will come from the assignments in Edgenuity.
Logging your Yoga Practice:
You need to complete 30 hours of Yoga practice sessions and other activities throughout the summer for full (.5) credit, 15 hours for quarter (.25) credit. The last assignment in your course in Edgenuity is where you will report your exercise hours. Please keep track of them so you can log them properly and accurately
None! If you have a Yoga mat, that is great! If you don't, don't worry you don't need one. HOWEVER, if you tend to have sweaty hands/feet, I highly recommend using one for your own safety. It can be hard to hold some of the poses on carpet alone and almost impossible on a hard surface. Yoga mats provide excellent traction to help you hold your poses, and can be found at Walmart and Amazon for around $12. Also, some of the videos use a Yoga block. You can just get a towel or a blanket and fold it up into a small square and these work as great substitutes.
