In today's digital world, the desktop computer, keyboard, and mouse are still king. Typing with speed and accuracy is a necessary skill to keep up with whatever you are trying to do whether you are writing a research paper, debugging lines of computer code, or even just drafting emails.
In Google Apps class we will practice at least 10 minutes everyday of class to improve our typing skills through the various lessons, games, and tests offered on this site... Plus... IT'S FREE!
On a good day when I am clear, focused, and feeling good, I have been known to crack 80 words per minute (WPM) with a 95% or better rating of accuracy, but I have also been typing since I was 16 years old. The more you practice something, the better you seem to get at it.
The Google Applied Digital Skills portal is a fantastic website full of information and hundreds of lessons about any and every Google application offered within the Google Suite. We will complete several lessons from this portal over the course of my class.
Note that some lessons have a few layers and can be completed in a single class period or two. Other lessons are MUCH more involved and require much more in-depth work and may take students multiple weeks to complete them.
Finally, note that every lesson, like every application, is different. Some lessons have more of a literacy focus, whereas other lessons may focus more on numeracy, collaboration, communication, and even social skills.
I don't often use Khan Academy in my technology classes, but I used it quite a bit when I was a math teacher here at UMS several years ago. If you are not familiar with it, you should be. It is a free online study guide for almost anything you may need to do in school. If you are ever struggling in a class and need some extra help and problems to work out for extra repititions, then this site is for you.
