CMP Textbook

"Success travels in the company of very hard work. There is no trick, no easy way."

- John Wooden, Coaching Legend

For my standard 8th grade mathematics classes, I use the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) 3 curriculum written by Lappan, Phillips,

Fey, and Friel. The CMP curriculum was developed at Michigan State University and "is a problem-centered curriculum promoting an

inquiry-based teaching-learning classroom environment. Mathematical ideas are identified and embedded in a sequenced set of tasks and

explored in depth to allow students to develop rich mathematical understandings and meaningful skills. The Common Core State Standards

for Mathematics (CCSSM) and the Standards for Mathematical Practice are embedded within each problem" (https://connectedmath.msu.edu/).

The CMP curriculum is sub-divided into several units. Students will have access to a student workbook in class. However, due to the limited

number of workbooks that UMS has, students are not permitted to take the workbooks home. I have provided .pdf files of pages from the

student workbook in the middle column of this webpage. I have also provided .pdf files of any corresponding labsheets or worksheets students

may receive from me in class in the right column of this webpage. As a general rule of thumb, the numbers of problems and labsheets usually correspond, unless otherwise noted.
