Rules and Recommendations for the Upper Fitness Center
The Upper Fitness Center (UFC) is located in the University Recreation and Wellness Center and is listed as URECCTR 220 on the online Course Guide. This space is typically reserved for PE 1015, Weight Training
Instructors should include the following points and policies into their syllabus and course management plans.
Students must:
· Wear close toed and heal, non-marking athletic shoes and shirts that are short or long sleeved – Sport bras, alternated t-shirts, tank tops, and shirts with obscene language printed on it will not be allowed.
· Not bring food, drink and/or gum into the UFC.
· Store personal belongings in the cubbies in the UFC or in a locker.
· Wait until the instructor has arrived to use the equipment and enter the UFC.
· Leave the UFC upon the completion of the course.
Equipment Notes:
· Benches must stay in the free weight area.
· Dumbbells must stay in the free weight area and returned to the stand immediately after each use.
· Weight plates must be returned to racks immediately after use
· All equipment should be used according to the guidelines suggested on each piece.
· Weights should never be dropped
· Collars (weight clips) must be used at all times when lifting
· Spotters are highly recommended
· Machines should be wiped down after use
As a PE Instructor, you are considered the on-sight facility supervisor, which means you are responsible for everything that happens in this space. In the role, it is important that you understand and adhere to the following:
Opening the Upper Fitness Center
· Contact a Facility Attendant (FA) for assistance if the UFC is locked upon your arrival.
· The UFC front door can be propped open with the floor sign stating that class is in session
· If there individuals in the UFC prior to opening, introduce yourself, kindly inform them that class will begin shortly, and that there are other locations to continue their activity. If this becomes an issue, inform an FA so that they can take over.
· Contact a FA if there is a towel shortage.

Closing the UFC
Upon the completion of the 10:10am section or if the next instructor has not arrived upon the conclusion of your course, it is import to:
· Make sure the equipment has all been returned to its original or intended location
· Have the equipment wiped down
· Clear the students from the UFC
· Turn off the lights
· Make sure the front door is closed
· Contact a Facility Attendant (FA) to have them lock the front door

Class Cancellation/Relocation
· Please contact the Facility Attendant (FA) to notify them of the change or cancellation. This will ensure that the fitness center stays locked.
· It is the instructor’s responsibility to inform his/her students. Recreation center staff is not responsible for posting signage.

Emergency Action Plan
· Tornado: Follow stairs downstairs to locker rooms.
· Fire: Use either exit in UFC to head directly outside.
· Injury: First Aid Kit and Injury Report Form located in desk area.
You considered the first responder and must act accordingly.
Call 911 for EMS or a Fitness Attendant (FA) at 612 626-9222 to inform facility staff of incident.
If ice, of other forms of first aid, are requested, please contact a FA at 612 626-9222

ALL injuries must be reported to the Facility Supervisor to ensure proper documentation. Contact Member Services.
Other important notes
Be advised and adhere to suggestions, instructions, or policies outlined by the Recreation and Wellness Center employees.
