Abbott Northwestern Hospital is a 627-bed teaching and specialty hospital based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the largest not-for-profit hospital in the Twin Cities and a part of the Allina Health network of hospitals and clinics. This hospital specializes in cardiovascular, transplant, neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine surgery, and high risk OB. Additional Helpful Information
The MVAMC is the primary clinical site for VA trainees. Beginning rotation students have an emphasis on basic airway and anesthetic management. Second year students have an emphasis on increasingly complex procedures and patient populations as well as introduction to regional and cardiac anesthesia. Third year students have an emphasis on increased independence with decision-making and fine-tuning technical skills in adult patients. The transition from direct to indirect supervision will be determined by the clinical coordinator in coordination with the program director. Welcome Letter and Important Information for Students
Large Metropolitan Level I Trauma Center with a team anesthesia model with an emphasis on basic principles of nurse anesthesia practice. Fast paced, high tech environment. Many opportunities are available for obstetric anesthesia, trauma, and anesthesia for burn patients.
Health Partners Same Day Surgery (HPSDS) center located at 435 Phalen St. Paul is a part of Regions Surgical Services - 9 ORs that include the following service lines: Gen surg, Peds/Adult ENT, Peds Dental, Gyn, Urology, Ortho, Plastics, Opthamology, & Burn (CO2 scar revisions primarily). This center also schedules a few days a week of GI sedation.
Trauma Experience: Regions is a Level 1 hospital and provides extensive trauma experience. On-call/overnight/weekend shifts are required for second/third-year SRNAs. See the Welcome Letter for more information regarding scheduling.

Fairview Lakes Medical Center provides award-winning care to the communities northeast of the Twin Cities. It is a Level IV trauma center, providing life-saving treatment to the seriously ill and injured 24 hours a day. FLMC is an all-CRNA only practice group with mixed cases including obstetrics, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, general surgery, and pediatrics.

IMPORTANT - DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:
All students must be signed in under their name, not under the CRNA's log in, when doing a case. Students need to be signed in under their name when taking out narcotics/ephedrine/ or any medications. Specifically, if a CRNA is logged into a case, the SRNA must log out the CRNA and log themselves into case to document adminsitration of a medication.
Ephedrine is labeled as a controlled substance per the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy. Thus, ephedrine is subject to the same DEA and state regulations as other controlled substances.
Controlled Substance Handling:
Must be secured (supervised, kept on your person after removal, not leave sitting on counters)
Staff that remove, administer and waste to maintain chain of custody.
Cannot be handed off (unless use the Epic transfer process for controlled substances).
All doses must be charted.
Any remaining waste must be documented in Epic and wasted per process defined by role (Anesthesia: waste electronically in Pyxis by placing remaining contents in syringe in return bin with return slip; Nurses: dual witness waste by wasting electronically in Pyxis and dual witness waste by wasting physically by expelling syringe contents into CSRx container (two nurses)
Discrepancies with removals, administration, or waste are reviewed daily to reconcile. Gaps sent to the provider/nurse for resolution (charting missed administration, waste documentation.
Any loss (cannot account for, disposed of inappropriately, lost) must be recorded in pharmacy, Compass event filed so follow-up and tracking/trending is documented.

Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center is a 300+ bed hospital with 10 main ORs, 4 digestive health OR suites, and 2 heart/vascular suites located in rural West Burlington, Iowa. Surgical services that are performed here include general, bariatric, OB-GYN, healthy pediatrics (ENT, dental, general surgery), vascular, spine, orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry, and occasional thoracic cases. Housing is provided with a free gym onsite. This is an all-CRNA independent model practice. We will encourage independent practice/thinking. This rotation will be heavy on regional anesthesia.
