Clinical Rotation Schedules
Schedules will be provided in advance of each clinical rotation by the Program Director. Specific schedules, i.e. day-to-day schedules, are managed by clinical site coordinators.
All requests for time off must be approved by the clinical site coordinator AND entered in the Time Off Request form found in the Nurse Anesthesia Supplement to the DNP Handbook. Sick days are counted as time off and will be deducted from annual time off allotment.
Requests for non-metro clinical sites are invited, but no guarantees can be made to meet all student requests.
Although all students will be assigned to different rotations, clinical case experiences will be commensurate at the conclusion of the program.
COA Requirements:
Call experience - Call is a planned clinical experience outside the normal operating hours of the clinical facility, for example, after 5 PM and before 7 AM, Monday through Friday, and on weekends. Assigned duty on shifts falling within these hours is considered the equivalent of an anesthesia call, during which a student is afforded the opportunity to gain experience with emergency cases. Although a student may be assigned to a 24-hour call experience, at no time may a student provide direct patient care for a period longer than 16 continuous hours.
Reasonable time commitment - A reasonable number of hours to ensure patient safety and promote effective student learning should not exceed 64 hours per week. This time commitment includes the sum of the hours spent in class and all clinical hours (see Glossary, “Clinical hours”) averaged over 4 weeks.
Students must have a 10-hour rest period between scheduled clinical duty periods (i.e., assigned continuous clinical hours).
At no time may a student provide direct patient care for a period longer than 16 continuous hours.
