Structure and Timeline
Graduate Volunteer Consultants (GVC) is led by a team of Managing Partners who work diligently year round to match clients with volunteer University of Minnesota Carlson School MBA & MA-HRIR consultants. Over the summer Managing Partners take on core business development activities and seek out new client projects. In the late summer and early fall both client and consultant application processes will open. Clients will be matched with consultant teams throughout the fall and consulting work will be conducted throughout the winter and into the spring.
Each project will be assigned 2-4 consultants, one lead consultant and a managing partner. Consultants and lead consultants are fully responsible for working with our nonprofit clients on a day-to-day basis to execute projects and deliver on any agreed upon requirements of each project. The assigned managing partner is responsible for initiating and managing GVC's overall relationship with our non-profit clients as well as providing full scale support for each project team.
Project needs submitted by nonprofit clients are expected to be 200-250 hours long and will be completed by the consultants and lead consultants in a 6-8 week period in late winter/early spring (Mid January to Early March timeframe). Nonprofit project needs cover various functional areas including: finance, accounting, operations, marketing, human resources, strategy, research, business planning and more. Check out the Services page to see examples of previous year’s projects.
