The purpose of this portfolio is to take a retrospective examination of scholarship during the coursework portion of the Ed.D. program and academic, professional and personal growth. This examination includes examples/artifacts in the areas of: (1) theoretical foundation, (2) instructional practice, and (3) research methods. The second purpose of the portfolio is to connect my scholarship during the coursework portion of the program to my readiness for research and the development of a dissertation. The portfolio will provide the committee with an introduction into my topic for research towards a Doctorate in Education which includes a problem statement and proposed research methodology.
Tim is currently the Manager of Education Outreach at the Holocaust Memorial Center (HMC) Zekelman Family Campus located in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In this position, he is responsible for organizing, developing, conducting and evaluating a variety of Holocaust and genocide education programs for Michigan teachers. He is also responsible for managing a team of trainers who travel throughout Michigan conducting workshops for teachers and organizes continuing education opportunities for trainers including Train the Trainer sessions to prepare new trainers. Since the launch of the outreach program in April of 2018, the HMC has trained 931 teachers from 417 schools and 305 districts in 70 out of the 83 counties in Michigan. This has an estimated impact on over 100,000 students. Due to this success, the Holocaust Memorial Center was awarded the 2019 Outreach Programming Award from the Michigan Museums Association.
Prior to joining the Holocaust Memorial Center, Tim was a turnaround principal and Director of Teacher Evaluation and Instructional Improvement for Hamtramck Public Schools where he was tasked with the rapid school turnaround of Hamtramck High School. Tim was also the Academic Dean for the Cranbrook Horizons Upward Bound program, the school leader for Crescent Academy's upper elementary and middle school, the assistant principal for Casa Richard Academy in Detroit and a Social Studies and English Language Arts teacher for 11 years with Southfield Public Schools, Warren Woods Public Schools, Casa Richard Academy and Cranbrook Horizons Upward Bound.
Tim completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University, a Master of Science in Finance from Walsh College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the K-12 Educational Leadership certification program at Eastern Michigan University. Tim's research interests are in the training and application of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) and trauma-informed practices for teachers and administrators with a specialized interest in training for educators in rural communities and communities with a high refugee and indigenous population.
