Research Interests: mining big data, systems biology and genomic networks in systemic autoimmune disease.
Current Projects: I have focused on understanding the heterogeneity and identifying novel therapeutic targets for systemic sclerosis (SSc) and how this can be used better treat patients with the disease. I have recently shown that different drugs target each subset of patients beginning an era of personalized medicine in SSc. Multi-tissue networks developed by my group have demonstrated consistent, deregulated processes across end target tissues in SSc, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). We are using these networks to understand the processes affected in clinical trials and to reposition FDA approved drugs that might treat SSc patients. We have mapped the molecular pathways underlying each subset and have developed a diagnostic test to stratify patients based on their different molecular pathways.
