Research Interests: copy number variants (CNVs).
Current Projects: CNVs are genomic imbalances at the structural level, where they refer to regions that deviate from the normal diploid state. These regions constitute ~12% (360
megabases) of the variation in the human genome and involves a larger proportion of the total physical genome than SNPs alone. Fundamentally, the challenge is one of distinguishing true CNVs from measurement error. It is the classical problem of resolving signal from noise. This challenge in genetics is further exacerbated in low coverage and difficult-tomap regions of the genome.
