Research Interests: anaerobic wastewater treatment.
Current Projects: I am operating a newly designed bench-scale anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) that relies on biofilm treatment to make anaerobic microbial treatment possible at low temperatures. While this bench-scale research will provide insight into the fundamentals of low temperature anaerobic wastewater treatment, we are, in parallel, operating a 2,000-liter pilotscale AnMBR system (Northfield, MI) to provide on-site proof of concept for AnMBR technology in cold to moderate climates. In the near future we plan on modifying the existing anaerobic digestion model 1 (ADM1) to account for system changes due to operation at low temperatures.
