Welcome to the College of Engineering (COE) Facilities Development Site
The place to document COE's continuing efforts to improve facilities and resources for students, faculty, administrators and staff.
COE is Chicago! Our recent additions to the UIC campus and stunning city architecture include our new Computing Design Research and Learning Center (CDRLC) completed in July 2025. The $129.8M, 127,000 Square Feet CDRLC houses Research Labs, Faculty, Student and Staff Offices for the Computer Science Department, campus classrooms plus public, communal and collaboration space. The initial Feasibility Study for the CDRLC was completed in 2015.
In the foreground of the above skyline image is our $43M, 57,500 Square Feet Engineering Innovation Building (EIB) opened in 2019. It houses our Chemical Engineering Department, a Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering High-Bay Structural Laboratory and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Labs for inter-disciplinary research.
Did You Know! In addition to the planning and design for the two new COE buildings above, COE has invested nearly $7M in the rehabilitation of 50,000+ square feet of laboratory, classroom and office space in existing facilities. Select from the 'Projects' links at the Top Margin to browse details.
