The newsletter sent home today and posted on the website yesterday explains in detail how maths has changed and how it helps children think, learn and persevere. The class did very well on the questions today. They learned all about using a T-chart today and the 100's chart to explain a growing pattern. We have introduced a few of the strategies and posted them on the strategy wall in the room. We have done draw a picture, make a diagram (Venn diagram), guess and check, find a pattern, act it out. There are many more problem-solving strategies that we will cover in the next few months. Below there is a picture of some of the strategies we use to help us solve math problems. If you hear your child talk about the math tool shed, this is a picture list of all the tools we use to solve math problems too. For example, bead chains, attribute blocks, counters,.... and more. Below is a picture that displays some of the strategies.
