Goal Statement
I am very interested in completing Dr. Hofstetter's eLearning course because I continue to struggle with the widely contested spectrum upon which online courses exist. Online courses seemingly are either valued or deemed ineffective. We frequently hear mixed messages about the intellectual rigor of these types of courses. There are two perspectives: it is accepted or it is not. Pitiful examples of online courses are compared to the most mythical face-to-face teaching experiences. (I think there is an article title there: The mythology of the face-to-face classroom.)
I believe that there are three key reasons that this dichotomy exists.
Personal curriculum beliefs are about an instructor’s online teaching attitude. I believe that attitude can also be defined as an instructor’s personal curriculum theory expressed in the online environment.
Faculty support emphasizes the amount and quality of development opportunities and support accessibility
The administrative culture at an institution demonstrates in influential terms the value of online education.
Therefore, as I hone in on my EPP topic in the next six months, I will be doing research regarding faculty attitudes and perceptions regarding faculty development and online courses.
I anticipate that my products for this course will be
An updated personal web site to reflect my current work
An updated public website (refining the summer project)
Framework for a literature review
