No animals are permitted in any campus building, including Kennedy Union, with the exception of service animals.
Outside food and beverages are not permitted for meetings and events in Kennedy Union or KU Central Mall. If food and/or beverages are needed, please contact Catering Services. Catering can be contacted at 937-229-2216.
Customers are responsible for clean-up of any spaces used and are expected to leave the room in the condition that it was found. Please contact the Kennedy Union Operations team at the start of your reservation if the room you have concerns with the condition of the room. Please note that the end time on your event reservation is the time that the room should be vacated; this includes any time needed for clean-up of the space. Failure to leave rooms in the condition they were found may result in a service charge of no less than $50.
Only CSI staff are permitted to move furniture and equipment. This is for safety considerations and to prevent possible damage to furniture. No furniture may be moved outside of any meeting room, reception space, or building. Movement of tables or changes to standard setups in any space may result in a service charge of no less than $50 and/or revocation of booking privileges. If damage is to occur from a patron moving furniture or equipment on their own, the cost of repair or replacement may be accessed.
If furniture is needed outside, it is the responsibility of the group to make arrangements. The Kennedy Union staff has a list of recommended vendors to contact should you need to rent furniture for outdoors.
CANDLES
Candles for decorative purposes or any ceremonies are not permitted. If there is waxy residue found on the carpet(s) and furniture, this will result in a monetary fine.
ADDITIONAL DECORATIONS
Only flameproof material may be used in decorations.
All lights or lighting devices must be labeled “approved” by the National Board of Fire Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc., Factory Mutual’s Laboratories, or the National Bureau of Standards.
Decorations may not be placed on lamps or ceiling lights.
Decorations may not be placed where they block doorways, stairways, or general passageways.
Painters tape is the only adhesive that may be used on walls, doors, etc. The use of Stik-Tac is prohibited.
Sticking pins and thumbtacks or tape on or in the ceiling tiles is prohibited
Standing on KU chairs and/or tables to secure decorations is not permitted. Please use a ladder only.
Any decorations placed on doors must not block visibility through windows in the door.
Crepe paper, glitter, confetti, and straw are not permitted. If used, a monetary fine will be assessed.
The department responsible for the event must remove all decorations at the close of the event.
***Cleaning fees may be assessed for violation of the above rules.
The Kennedy Union Information Center on the 1st floor of KU maintains a lost and found for the building. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of each academic semester. Anything valuable will be found in the Student Leadership office which is located in KU Room 206.
Lobbies, entryways, and corridors must be kept free of booths, chairs, displays, and other such items that might, in the judgement of the building manager, interfere with the safe passage of traffic.
Wheeled vehicles (with the exception of wheelchairs), skateboards, bicycles, and roller blades are not permitted in Kennedy Union.
A lactation room is available on the 2nd Floor of KU. You must have card access in order to use it, but guests may sign out an access card in the Center for Student Involvement office (KU 241).
The University of Dayton policy on alcohol is consistent with that of the state law of Ohio. Ohio state law prohibits the sale of, or consumption of any alcoholic beverage by any person under the age of 21. The department sponsoring an open event will register the event and will be held responsible for the proper enforcement of state, local, and University regulations concerning the distribution of alcoholic beverages.
Policies -
Alcoholic beverages are permitted on campus consistent with the state law and with the following University regulations:
Alcohol is not to be distributed without charge at open events. Reasonable per-drink charges will be required for alcoholic beverages.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages must be available at an open event in sufficient quantity to serve the anticipated number of guests.
Alcoholic beverages in Kennedy Union, KU Central Mall, and/or immediate surrounding areas must be supplied by Catering.
Alcohol is prohibited in residential facilities (VWK/the Adele Center).
Liquor and Bar Service Policies -
Bar Service is available from 11:00am until 12:00am midnight, Monday through Saturday. Sunday bar service is restricted to beer and soft drinks. Due to State of Ohio Regulations, no carry in of alcoholic beverages is permitted. Full bar service or partial bar service will be assessed per person bartender fees as listed in event planner and drinks will be charged individually or by bottle. No “self-serve bars” shall be allowed on permit premises. Patrons must be 21 to purchase any alcoholic beverages.
