June 2012

- Prof. Anvari is awarded a Research Fellowship by UCR Academic Senate Committee on Research.

- Prof. Anvari was invited to CBET Grantee Conference.

The National Science Foundation has invited Professor Bahman Anvari to present a grantee feature presentation of his project entitled "Virus-resembling optical nano-materials for intraoperative ovarian cancer imaging" at the 2012 CBET (Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport Systems) Grantee Conference, Advancing Global Engineering Through Discovery and Innovation. Prof. Anvari's work is one of only four selected by the director of the Biophotonics program to be featured in the Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Healthcare (BEEH) cluster.

The conference provides CBET grantees and Program Directors the opportunity to build more effective and collaborative relationships amongst one another through the multiple outlets for networking and interaction. Moreover, the conference enables awardees to share their technical achievements and to learn more about NSF/CBET programs, practices, and supplemental funding mechanisms. The NSF 2012 CBET Conference was held from Wednesday, June 6, 2012 to Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

May 2012

- Prof. Anvari gave an invited lecture (Nano-materials for Near Infrared Optical Imaging and Phototherapy) at The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on May 23, and was honored "In recognition of pioneering innovations in laser-based technologies and biophotonics."

- Baharak was awarded an SPIE scholarship in Optics and Photonics.

- Baharak, Mohammad and Nima were elected as President, Vice-president and Program coordinator of the UCR SPIE student chapter.

- SPIE welcomes UCR student chapter.

The SPIE community welcomes the University of California, Riverside as a new student chapter. SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics. Baharak Bahmani, a Bioengineering Ph.D. Candidate, is the first UCR SPIE Chapter members. Members of the UCR Chapter will have the opportunity to be involved in planning activities such as attend relevant conferences and establish educational outreach programs as well as receive chapter funding.
